Application

Tile Adhesive

Ceramic tile adhesive is a compound materials of sand, cement and some chemical additives which premixed as a certain formula or receipe.

The best tile adhesives consist of cement, sand, limestone, water, and some performance additives, and are mainly used to bond tile to adhesive. Cellulose ethers (e.g., HPMC, MHEC) and Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) are part of the tile adhesives formulation, and they play an essential role in improving product efficiency and performance.

Cement-based tile adhesives are one of the most extensive applications of our cellulose ethers and redispersible polymer powder. Our products can effectively enhance product adhesion and cohesion, sag resistance, workability, hydrophobicity, and final product consistency.

We also offer tailored formulation to best suit your specific raw materials and special local requirements.

Here’s how RDP works in tile adhesive formulations:

1. Improved Adhesion

Enhanced Bond Strength: RDP forms a flexible and strong film that adheres well to both the tile and the substrate. This film helps to bridge any minor irregularities in the surfaces, leading to a stronger and more durable bond.

Wider Open Time: RDP increases the open time of the adhesive, allowing more time for the installer to adjust the tiles and ensure proper alignment before the adhesive sets.

2. Flexibility and Impact Resistance

Elasticity: The polymer films formed by RDP are elastic, which allows the adhesive to accommodate minor movements in the substrate and the tiles. This flexibility reduces the risk of cracking and de-bonding, especially in areas subject to thermal expansion and contraction.

Impact Resistance: The flexible nature of the polymer films also provides better impact resistance, helping to protect the tiles from damage due to external forces.

3. Water Retention

Moisture Management: RDP helps the adhesive retain moisture, which is crucial for the proper hydration and curing of the cementitious components. This ensures that the adhesive sets properly and achieves optimal strength.

Reduced Drying Cracks: By maintaining moisture, RDP helps prevent rapid drying and the formation of cracks in the adhesive layer.

4. Workability

Ease of Application: RDP improves the consistency and handling properties of the adhesive, making it easier to spread and apply evenly. This results in a smoother and more consistent application, which is essential for achieving a professional finish.

Reduced Sagging: The increased viscosity and thixotropic properties provided by RDP help prevent the adhesive from sagging or sliding off vertical surfaces, ensuring that the tiles remain in place during installation.

5. Durability and Weather Resistance

Long-Term Performance: The polymer films formed by RDP contribute to the long-term durability of the adhesive, enhancing its resistance to environmental factors such as UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and moisture.

Chemical Resistance: RDP can also improve the chemical resistance of the adhesive, making it more resistant to common household cleaners and other chemicals.

6. Enhanced Cohesion

Internal Bonding: RDP improves the internal cohesion of the adhesive, ensuring that the various components (such as cement, fillers, and other additives) stay well bonded together. This results in a more homogeneous and stable adhesive mixture.

The Role of SLEO cellulose and RDP in Tile Adhesive:

●Improved sag resistance: The modified SLEO cellulose and RDP can improve sag resistance feature of the adhesives. Better sag resistance means that tile adhensive can be applied more efficiently to walls without sag.

●Improved workability: Better leveling and reduced stickiness of SLEO cellulose and RDP can be applied easily to adhesives, which easy to operate and construction, and can significantly improve the construction efficiency.

●Improved adhesion: SLEO cellulose and RDP have good thickening effect, It can enhance the consistency and bond strength of the Tile adhesives. Suitable addition rate of it makes it has better adhesion feature.

●Improved heat and freeze thaw resistance: After add the SLEO cellulose and RDP, the heat and freeze thaw resistance of tile adhesives has improved.

●Improved water retention: SLEO cellulose and RDP substantially reduce the loss of water into absorbing substrates in formulations. The water retention ability of MelaColl also strongly enhances the adhesion strength of wall tile adhesives. This is because the binders have enough time for hydration and at the same time do not lose water.
